Some of the very popular apps appear to be of use to thousands of users and have quickly spread to several devices worldwide. However this large inflow of apps includes both, apps which are safe to use, and others which do more harm than good. These harmful apps are the problem, and larger than them is the problem of how to eliminate or stop these apps from doing any further harm. Looking at Appthority more closely we find that this is in fact a cloud based security solution, which was just recently invested in by U.S. Venture partners and Venrock as the two firms provided Appthority with an input $6.25 million. Appthority is one of the many such as vendors which are offering a cloud based security system in order to protect and safeguard enterprises from threats which may be located in mobile applications. It does have competition in the market with other apps such as Mimecast doing the same job; though with this massive capital influx Appthority should now find it a little bit easier to become the foremost name when it comes to application risk control.

Appthority’s main objective and task is to automatically detect any suspicious activity it may see coming from mobile apps. This includes a huge array of harmful code, such as malware or spyware, which may have been installed with the purpose of stealing information. Once a dangerous app is in the corporate atmosphere it can do more damage that it may have been designed for, such as an attack on the entire company which could result in corporate data being stolen or intellectual property being taken over by someone else. Once Appthority has identified potential dangers and has short listed the detected suspects, it will go ahead to grade the collected threats. Each app that it has found to be a problem will be analyzed and then graded in order to develop a list of risks ranging from high risk to low risk. This will give the firm a more personalized evaluation of the problems at hand.

Most importantly for firms, Appthority will be of even greater use since it does have the capability to work alongside other security measures which the firm may have in place. For example Appthority can provide its app categorization feature and risk analysis expertise to Fusion Mobile or App Catalogues and together these two services can work towards to provide the business with a more secure cyber space.

Firms and businesses are always on the look for out for apps which may risk their businesses’ wellbeing; however monitoring other happenings such as mobile activity in the work place is also a concern. Protecting a firm from spyware is one matter and making sure the firm’s own data and information is safe is another. With Appthority being a cloud based solution it is possible for this security system to keep a watch on all the information all at once as it secures the entire cloud. This also has the added benefit that all mobile devices can be monitored. Even if they are changed over time, as employees may wish to change their phones, this isn’t a problem and apps on the new device can also be monitored.
